Red Sox take 3 of 4 from O's

By: Tyler Walters

The Boston Red Sox wrapped up their four game set with the Orioles with a win Sunday afternoon.

Their was a lot to be happy about this past weekend for Red Sox fans as the bats were great and the pitching was pretty good as well.  The Sox outscored the Orioles 21-12 in the series.

Game one was dominated by David Price who through a complete game with only 95 pitches.  And had it not been for Manny Machado hitting a two strike, two out home run in the top of the ninth Price would have completed a shutout.

I'm still not sure what we're going to get out of DP this year.  He's had games like this where it looks like his only competition for the Cy Young Award will be Chris Sale.

Then he's had the games like he did against the Yankees where he gave up four runs in the first inning and says that he can't feel his fingers.  Looks like he's on when he can actually feel his pitching hand.

Drew Pomeranz got the loss in game two as the Orioles won 7-4.  Pomeranz's ERA is now up to 5.97 over six starts and he holds a 1-2 record.

It's fair to say Pomeranz has gotten off to a very disappointing start after absolutely dominating the competition last year.

Rick Porcello got the win Saturday as the Sox won 6-3 and Eduardo Rodriguez finished out the series Sunday with a win and a shutout for the Red Sox pitching staff.

The biggest story of the series and of the weekend for the MLB was J.D. Martinez's production at the plate.  In four games Martinez amassed three home runs in the series, two of those coming in Sunday's game.

This is just one of the two bombs he hit to straight away center this weekend.  J.D. is absolutely SMASHING baseballs.  His four home runs in his last five games has placed him in a tie for the most home runs in the majors (15).

The other guy in that tie for most home runs in the MLB is Mookie Betts.  Mookie had eight hits in the Baltimore series, two of those being home runs.
Betts is now leading the MLB in batting average (.365), slugging percentage (.760), OBP (.1.198), runs scored (48), doubles (19), total bases (127), extra base hits (35), and home runs  (15-tied with J.D. Martinez).  Take another second and go back and read that last sentence once more.   It is just absurd how good Mookie Betts has been this year.

The Red Sox will send Chris Sale to the bump Tuesday night against the Tampa Bay Rays in Tampa.  The Rays have won seven of their last ten ball games.
