By: Conor Duncan
The series at hand between The Washington Capitals and The Tampa Bay Lightning is shaping up to be one of the most interesting series of this playoffs so far. After going two in the hole at home, Tampa has brought themselves back into the series with a 4-2 win in Washington to make the It 2 games to one in Washington’s favor.
Game 3 was absolutely dominated by The Bolts power play. Two of Tampa’s four goals were scored with a man advantage, and both goals came from the Stamkos - Kucherov - Palat line.
The bolts were also 100% effective on the penalty kill, shutting down all of Washington’s power play efforts. Special teams was not Tampa’s only strength however, the Imfamous Lightning forecheck came out of hiding Tuesday night, making the game a little more physical and even led to a few scraps.
So what does this mean? By no stretch of the imagination are the Caps out of it. The series is still 2-1 in Washington’s favor. But the Bolts have woken up, and with a 4-2 road victory to rally behind, there is no doubt that everybody watching will see a different Tampa bay lightning on the ice than the one seen in games 1 and 2. Tampa, can NOT let up though. In order to beat this fast, sharp shooting Capitals team the Bolts will have to keep playing Tampa’s game. That means physical, fast hockey with few turnovers. The Capitals have proven that they are a team worthy of the finals, and now the pressure is on Tampa to make sure they can keep them down for another year. Game 4 will be broadcasted on NBCSN @8:00 eastern time.
