The Washington Nationals are on fire

By: Tyler Walters

The Washington Nationals have become the hottest team in baseball over the last couple of weeks.  The Nats are now 13-2 over their last 15 games.

There was a great deal of hype for the Nationals coming into the season because they have a new manager and Bryce Harper is in the last year of his contract in Washington.  But the team got off to a slow start.

They started their season with a sweep of the Reds but then lost a series to the Braves and were swept by the Mets.  They then went 7-10 after the Mets series but have found their stride lately.

The Nationals are operating under first year manager Dave Martinez who was the Cubs bench coach before heading to Washington.  Martinez coached alongside Joe Madden for the last ten years so there was certainly a buzz that followed him to Washington.

Since April 29, the Nationals have been clicking on all cylinders and last night was no different.

Watching games at Chase Field in Arizona is always fun.  The ball flies a little farther in the desert, and the stadium is just beautiful.

Watching games at Chase Field is really fun though, when you have Bryce Harper hitting baseballs to the MOON.

That was one of the most impressive home runs I have ever seen in my life.  I'm not sure if it was the pink bat or the noise or the fact that Zack Godley had the balls to throw Bryce Harper over the middle of the plate on a 3-0 count, but that was just amazing.

Steven Souza Jr. not even taking a step in the direction of that ball but just watching it go soaring over his head was pretty funny as well.  And after all of that Alex Rodriguez decided to gift us with the quote of the night.

"Lau...launch angle..., exit velo, everything."  I might get that made into a sticker and put above my bed.  Beautiful.

It's hilarious watching former baseball players try to make and sense of statcast at all.  I think statcast is kind of cool, it's just cool to see how fast a ball gets out of the ballpark but these guys like ARod could not care less and it's phenomenal.

The Nationals hit a lot of home runs last night.  Trea Turner had one, Mark Reynolds had two to go along with Bryce Harper's bomb.

The Diamondbacks are now on a five game losing streak after being one of the best teams in the league for the first month of the season.  They still hold a lead in the NL West but that's now down to two and a half games over the Rockies.

The Nationals have moved to just a game and a half behind the NL East leading Braves.
