Antonio Brown is Officially a Heel
Antonio Brown going from fan favorite to public enemy number one over the last three months made me think one thing; I've seen this before.
Like, a lot of times.
And then I realized; this is something straight out of a WWE story line.
If you took out the football aspect out of the entire story and just said all of the main story points, it is stuff that would make Vince McMahon blush.
Hear me out: AB was the ultimate underdog who emerged as a fan-favorite and eventually rose to the top. Daniel Bryan anyone?
In the midst of this, he emerges as a guy who is highly respected and beloved throughout the league for his hard work, dedication, and gets along with the fans. Google John Cena 2005-2012
Then seemingly out of nowhere, he turns his back on all of that almost instantly, and becomes hated.
See: Chris Jericho, Sgt. Slaughter, Seth Rollins etc.
Antonio Brown is the Shawn Michaels to the Steelers' Marty Jannetty. He is the Randy Savage to the Steelers' Hulk Hogan. The greatness covered up the true feelings of the superstar, but it could only do so for so long.
But wait, there's more.
To every heel, there is a face whom the WWE Universe stands behind and supports. The good guy who can do no wrong.
Enter JuJu Smith-Schuster.
The 22 year-old Pro-Bowl wide receiver who won the team MVP for his incredible 2018 season. Here is where the heel turn of AB began; with jealousy. He sees the way the fans react to JuJu. He sees the fact that JuJu is getting more receptions than him and more attention nationally. AB has no interest of sharing the spotlight with another receiver, so he causes trouble, turns his back on the franchise and leaves, and feuds with one of the nicest guys in the NFL.
It was two guys who seemed to be close, but in the end, envy and jealousy split them up. It was Matt Hardy turning his back on Jeff Hardy; Christian turning on Edge; Scott Hall turning on Kevin Nash.
This is something that no one expected to happen, and if it sticks true to its WWE-like nature, this feud is far from over.
